Acne Cures - Is There Real Treatment Available?
Dean Shainin

Acne is a chronic disorder that affects millions of people all around the world. Though teenagers are mostly publicized as the major victims of acne, it has been known to affect infants and adults as well.

Besides its usual symptoms, acne is something that has been known to result in other problems such as personal anguish and has led to low self-confidence and loss of self-esteem. Many teenage acne victims are severely embarrassed or depressed due to extremely visible severe acne.

All this has resulted in a lot of research to find the ultimate acne cure that can improve the skin condition of acne patients.

Unfortunately, even after decades of hard research, there is no particular acne cure as such. There are OTC products and prescription medications, conventional and alternative treatments that can’t completely eradicate acne, although, some acne products claim they can do this.

However, even if these acne products are not as effective as advertised. There are certain acne products available today that are quite good at controlling acne outbreaks and preventing future ones.

The most commonly used acne products are the over the counter products, such as cleansers, moisturizers, astringents and pimple creams. Note that these are not medications but cosmetic products. Real medication is not likely to be available over the counter. What these acne products do is help the medical condition by improving the skin environment under which acne thrives (like unplugging whiteheads and blackheads, cleaning skin pores, providing moisturizing agents, etc.). Some of these products can even cause skin peeling or shedding that allows for newer and healthier skin to grow.

Then there are the topical antibiotics or the prescription only acne cures. These acne cures are usually medicines that are topically applied and whose target is the bacteria that cause acne by infecting the pores of the skin. It has been noted in some cases that long-term usage of these acne cures can result in their being rendered useless as the bacteria become resistant to the drugs. Topical antibiotics also have side effects like all topical drugs. Study the side effects properly before deciding to use prescription acne cures. Of course, there is always the possibility that your medical condition doesn't really leave you much of a choice. Your doctor will know what is best in such a case.

Oral antibiotics are another prescription acne cure option. Since these acne cures are taken orally, the biggest concern is that the drug entering your blood stream is likely to affect the whole body, thereby increasing the risk of side effects. Oral antibiotic acne cures have several side effects associated with them and may include nausea and dizziness.

A few vitamin A derivatives can be of help if the skin cells need to be repaired or to prevent clumping. But these too have undesirable side effects that can manifest as psychological disorders, dryness, irritation, redness, etc.
