Acne Medication And How They Work For Your Skin
Dean Shainin

Acne is prevalent throughout the world. It affects millions of people everyday. It is a skin inflammation that is caused by the foods that are consumed, but also by the environment. Acne in women can be caused by taking birth control pills, and in men, it can be caused by taking steroids. More often than not, in teenagers it is because of poor diet. Studies have shown that the acne medication that is available today can treat more then ninety percent of acne outbreaks although some can take up to a year to be effective.

Acne medication are classified into different categories; traditional, homeopathic and herbal.

Traditional acne medication are those that are sold by prescription and over the counter. It is important to discuss with your doctor any over the counter acne medication that you are taking because over time, some may become toxic to your skin causing more damage. Although Benzoyl Peroxide has been recommended in the past for acne, further studies have shown that it can acts as an exfoliant that can cause dryness, and can be an irritant to the already sensitive skin. It can also cause red blotches that can be as painful as the acne you are trying to cure. Benzoyl Peroxide is found in a lot of over the counter acne medication, so it is recommended that you read the list of ingredients before purchasing an acne medication to prevent any more skin disorders from occurring.

Tetracycline has replace Benzoyl Peroxide in acne medicines.

It most often is used in conjunction with Benzoyl Peroxide in prescription acne medication. Tetracycline is also not always recommend as an acne medication. There are a few serious side effects that can occur if taken with certain food or other medications. It has been documented that taking Tetracycline and consuming milk or milk product, antacids, or even iron supplements can inhibit the absorption of the antibiotic and in extreme cases can cause teeth to turn gray. It is crucial to discuss all side effects with your doctor before taking this acne medicine.

Herbal acne medication are just as they are described. There are certain types of herbs such as lavender, chamomile and bergamot that when are mixed together can act as an Acne medicine. Other herbs such as burdock root, juniper, and dandelion root are extremely effective in fighting acne. Herbal Acne medicines decrease the toxicity in the skin to give it a healthier look. Poke Root and Echinacea herbs are used for their anti-inflammatory properties.

Homeopathic acne medication work by finding the cause of the acne then using herbs and roots to cure it. Homeopathic acne medication can only be distributed by a licensed homeopathic practitioner. They, like a medical doctor will determine the cause of your acne and what course of treatment that is needed.
